Good questions
Frequently asked questions
Everything people ask before their first batch — about the app, the price, the privacy story, and the calculators. Something missing? Email us — a human reads it.
The app
What is MakerMargin?
An offline pricing and profit tracker for iPhone and iPad. You log materials at package prices, build recipes for what you sell, set a target margin, and the app computes cost per unit and a suggested price. When you make a sale, stock deducts itself and profit lands on your dashboard by product and channel.
Does it work without internet?
Completely. Materials, recipes, sales, reports, and Quick Sell all function with zero signal. Only the one-time Pro purchase and optional CSV sharing need a connection.
Is it on Android?
Not currently — MakerMargin is an iOS and iPadOS app. There are no plans for Android right now; the free web calculators on this site work on any device.
How many currencies are supported?
12, including USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, and JPY — and the app interface itself is translated into 8 languages.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Products, materials, and sales each export as CSV from Settings → Export. Your data is never hostage to the app.
Pricing & buying
What's free and what costs money?
The app is free with up to 3 products — every other feature is unrestricted. Pro removes the product limit and costs $2.99 as a single one-time purchase. See the pricing page for the full breakdown.
Is Pro really not a subscription?
Really. One payment, charged once to your Apple account, yours forever including updates. There is no monthly or annual tier at all.
How do I restore Pro on a new phone?
Download the app with the same Apple ID and Pro restores automatically. If it doesn't, the upgrade screen has a Restore Purchases button.
Data & privacy
Where is my data stored?
Entirely on your device, inside the app's private storage. There is no account, no cloud sync, and no way for us — or anyone else — to read your business data. Deleting the app deletes the data; that is the deal.
Does the app track me?
The app sends a small number of anonymous usage events (app launch, feature interactions) so we can spot bugs and improve features. No names, no emails, no location, no advertising identifiers. The full policy is on the privacy page.
What about the calculators on this website?
They run 100% in your browser. The numbers you enter never leave your device — you can verify this by loading a calculator, going offline, and continuing to use it.
Using the calculators
How is the suggested price calculated?
Cost per unit divided by (1 − target margin − selling fees). Cost per unit is (materials + labor + other batch costs) ÷ units per batch, plus packaging per unit. Material costs derive from package prices — a $3.50 5-lb bag of flour is $0.70/lb, so using 2 lb costs $1.40 per batch.
What margin should I aim for?
50–70% is the healthy band for small-batch handmade goods. Below 40%, one wasted batch or slow market consumes your profit. The true-margin readout in each calculator shows where your current price actually lands.
Can I use the calculators on my phone?
Yes — they are built mobile-first and work in any modern browser. Add them to your home screen for market-day what-if pricing without installing anything.
